Romulo Cafe

Marie and I had dinner at Romulo's right after  the TGTE, we planned to eat here the Friday before this Sunday, however it was effin late at night and it was closed already, I've heard lots of rave reviews about this cafe and hadn't had the chance of actually eating there so I wanted to see if it's worth trying.

it's quietly  tucked between Scout Tuason and Scout Lascano, it's easy to find when the light is on,  it's a restaurant disguised as a house, or vice versa. It's owned by the descendants of our President Romulo hence the name.

no one welcomed us at the door, we approached first a staff before we got entertained, there was this lady staff who arrogantly asked us if we had reservations, then I said no politely and asked if we need to have one, it was a family day Sunday and the place was jam packed (I only got decent pictures when everyone almost left), however we were still lucky that we got a table for 2 inside. asked for the menu and little did I know that it was all Filipino.

inside the place was a cozy,  hip and cool with a mix of retro modern, walls have huge patterns with nostalgic black and white pictures of whoever from the world war era.

I asked for this table however it was reserved

they also have a bar

then we ordered, apparently this time it was not that difficult maybe because it's Filipino, however I wanted to try something new, but almost nothing, so just ordered what we liked. earlier that day we ate a light mirienda at the TGTE expo and already ate Vigan empanada, but for appetizer we ordered cheese longganisa empanada which was placed again on the little menu that we always order from at any restaurant.
Longganisa with Cheese Empanada

this was originaly five but we already ate two and forgot to take a picture. this empanada is the bomb. It's like the gourmet version of Vigan empanada, the first bite will bring you to heaven (ala cooking master boy) it's so delicious paired with their vinegar mix ughhhhh! empanada heaven. they were gone in 60 seconds

 then came our main dishes.

Baked Lemongrass Chicken (1/2)
Bagnet Pinakbet

Plain Rice (this were 2 cups more like 3)
the Lemongrass Chicken was awsomeeeeeeeeeeeee! all garlicky and yummy with the hint of lemongrass it was very juicy and succulent paired with the sauce SAAAARAAAPPPPP!!! the Bagnet Pinakbet was also awsome however we have issues with it, Marie doesn't eat Eggplant and Ampalaya (Bitter Gourd) while i don't eat Okra (Lady Fingers),  so we had a little dare we'll eat one each

eating Ampalaya

the effect
eating Okra
serioulsy who does eat Okra? it's like ooey gooey gross.

the AFTERMATH
we were not able to finish the Chicken despite it's yuminess because come on it's 1/2 chicken and we're already FULL! however there is always room for dessert.

Lava Rock
at first I was disappointed because of the size it was quite small however I judged it too early, IT WAS CHOCOLATE HEAVEN! it's not your typical brownie ala mode, this was FUDGY and almost batter like, it's like only baked for a minute and served. it's SOBRANG SARAP! and again it was gone in an instant, it's enough for 2, and having a second round would merit you diabetes.

gone in 60 seconds again

ughhh I would recommend this place to anyone! but make sure to make reservations ok, the food was AMAZING it could've been perfect except for the arrogant staff that are not welcoming, because no matter how the good food is, if your staff are jack asses no one would eat in it ok?
